Fall 2024 Retreat

For Women Entrepreneurs

“elbows out”

a retreat For early to Mid-stage women entrepreneurs ready to claim time and space for themselves and their businesses

If you’re anything like most women business owners, whether you’ve been in business for 2 years or 10+, you’re taking on a lot of roles.

And it’s been a loooooooong time since you’ve been able to:

  • Take time away from your team and your family to recharge

  • Reconnect to your “WHY” in your personal life and in your business, so you can better serve your clients, customers, and community

  • Ask questions you are supposed to know the answers to that are keeping you spinning rather than soaring ahead

  • Enjoy creative visionary time to allow your intuition to speak

  • Nourish your body and soul, and laugh until your cheeks hurt

Now, imagine doing all of the above in a gorgeous, healing location. With horses. And nourishing, comfort food for you to refuel and stay energized. (Think of hearty soups, slow-cooked pulled pork, and home-made Lasagna!)

And, you get to write it all off since it’s a business expense!!!

If you’re thinking, “HECK YEAH, that sounds pretty awesome,” you may be the perfect fit for this first-of-its-kind retreat, ELBOWS OUT.

WHY “ELBOWS OUT?”

When we are “elbows out,” we are unf*ckwithable. 😉

We say what needs to be said. We set boundaries. We ask for help. We put ourselves at the top of our to-do lists.
And we have wicked amounts of fun!

Yet, for too many of us, “elbows out” feels more aspirational than habitual, and during the retreat, we’re here to change that.

THIS RETREAT IS FOR WOMEN BUSINESS OWNERS WHO ARE PAST THE STARTING-UP STAGE AND ARE:

  • Potentially blinking at burnout and desire tools and techniques to set boundaries with staff and family members so they can continue to do the work they’re meant to do.

  • Seek advice and support to sustainably scale their business–their way.

  • Struggling to find time to work ON their business because of endless to-do lists and fires to put out.

  • Wanting time to set their own agenda–whether that’s sleeping in, late-night girl talk, reading a book, or enjoying the outdoors.

  • Craving connection with other mission-driven, badass women entrepreneurs with whom they can laugh (and potentially cry) about the stresses of business ownership and life. SPOILER ALERT: You will likely walk away with new business friends!

SHANNON DICKEY

EQUINE ASSISTED LEARNING FACILITATOR

Helping people has always been a priority for Shannon, and she couldn’t think of a better way to do that than through partnering people with horses. Horses have been a part of her life since before she can remember, and have gotten her through some of the toughest obstacles in her journey. Growing up the daughter of a racehorse trainer, she knew very early on horses were her passion, but never dreamt she would be able to live her dream of building a career with them.

After graduating from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Agriculture, Shannon made the move from Manitoba to Saskatchewan where she calls home today. Shannon is working towards her diploma in Equine Sciences from the University of Guelph, as well as her mentorship with the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association to become a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor. She is an Equestrian Canada Certified Instructor, a Certified Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator, and Certified Equi-Health Canada First Aid Instructor.

Being a lifelong learner, Barbie continues to grow her knowledge in the equine industry. She has earned her certification as an Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator an Equine Canada Western Riding Instructor and an Equi-health Canada Equine First Aid Instructor. “Before working with Amanda I had gone back into autopilot mode, survival mode.
I wasn't being present and putting my energy into the work I love.

My top achievement would be overcoming the fear of being me. Obviously not 100%, but I got over some pretty major hurdles. Fear of looking stupid, fear of not being accepted by women, fear of being myself in a public forum and
a fear of being judged for being different. I have since put myself out there, and am living my life more authentically again and feel so much lighter because of it.

I trusted Amanda enough to open up about my intuitive practice and she was amazing. She helped me with my confidence, and I have made sure to not let that practice drop off and allow myself to go into autopilot mode again.
Trust her. She is honest with herself and with you.

The group I was drawn to was an amazing fit and all of the women involved made real connections. I think we need more groups like this and people like Amanda to show us that we are all enough, all equal and amazing.”

  • 1. It is completely normal to be scared of a 1200 pound animal, they’re beautiful and also big. You’re not alone in this! (Amanda and Courtney from Alcheme are also scared sh*tless of horses.) We commit to you, that if you allow yourself to trust in our process, your fears will be conquered and you will leave with a new found appreciation for these fascinating animals.

    2. You’re not actually riding the horses. You are in a safe space - an indoor arena - walking around with the most gentle horses you will ever encounter. Women do not need to have any experience working with horses. All experiences happen from the ground and are in a safe, supportive and controlled environment. Wouldn't we all like our business lives to be like that!

    3. Shannon and Barbie from EmPower U Equine are trained to work with horses and people. They’ve worked with thousands of people in their programs since 2018.

    4. Horses are healing. They can help you move through pain and roadblocks, for all areas of your life. It doesn’t matter where a woman is at on their entrepreneurial journey. Horses don’t judge you on your past successes or failures in business. What they do care about is having women show up as their authentic self prepared to be open minded, and willing to challenge their limiting beliefs - both in the arena, and in their personal and professional life.

Herds are to horses are just like women are to the teams they lead in their business and they will help them discover more about their leadership style, the way they communicate, and how integral they are to their team!

WHY we work with HORSEs:

Women often feel judged, so what better partner for success than the horse, who is incapable of judging? By joining forces with these magnificent animals, we will help women to become empowered to seek the answers they have inside themselves by working with the horse in a series of objectively driven exercises. Horses demand a strong leader that can clearly communicate before they are able to trust and willing to partner with.

Women in our sessions will be coaxed out of their comfort zone and required to be the true leaders they know they can be. The horse will listen to the participant, and help to guide them through the challenges and obstacles they are facing to reach success and self-discovery.

(Side note from Amanda: the EmPower U Equine sessions are magical! The horses show you things you didn’t know about yourself and help you to heal. I used to be terrified of horses and I successfully navigated - and loved - this experience. If I can do it, you can too!)
